Business Solutions Architect

Located in London with International Coverage

CMC is seeking a Business Solutions Architect that will lead delivery teams in the creation of high-quality, end-to-end business solutions. This position will be based in London with a remit to cover other worldwide locations notably New York and Hong Kong.

The role will report directly to the head of the Business Solutions Architecture practice and will work closely with Solution, Technology, Information and Infrastructure Architecture. The incumbent will assist in identifying and defining the appropriate use of clients' existing technology stack and make recommendations for new technology requirements according to the recommended solution. This resource will also be responsible for enforcing the implementation of enterprise standards in all solutions.

The position will lead the development leaders by providing hands-on technical guidance in designing solutions for new projects, leveraging standard technologies and pushing technology boundaries to improve the quality, performance, reliability and user experience delivered by CMC systems. In addition to this the architect will be involved in designing major enhancements to existing systems. The intention is for this role to be the most senior hands-on resource within a practice-area (line-of-business) and as such the successful candidate must be able to generate the respect required from both business and IT for such a crucial leadership position. The chosen candidate will also have the ability to traverse both business and technology as an evangelist, creating enterprise value through the appropriate use of technology. The position will require a proven ability to influence and negotiate across both business and IT and facilitate technical discussions as well as business strategy discussions. Finally, this role will require a considerable amount of business acumen as the role requires the ability to architect a solution according to budget and to do this in the most profitable, to the benefit of both the client and CMC.

Skills and experience

  • Experience of leading a portfolio of projects and managing and mentoring lead developers through the client engagement according to CMC's Delivery Made Easy methodology.
  • Understand and have experience of project stage gates (e.g. Technology Governance Review, Finance Review, CIO Review, etc.).
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance as required to aid in the delivery of solutions for new projects.
  • Facilitate the creation of prototypes and POC's in the feasibility phase of projects to ensure validity of solution design.
  • Proven abilities in a variety of technologies ranging from Data Management & Workflow Systems to Portal Technology and Quantitative Modelling Engines.
  • Lead cross-platform integration, assist in the management of technical product life cycle, support systems delivery and work directly with clients' architectural governance groups to promote our solutions and services.
  • Create and establish working partnerships with various technology and business groups.
  • Produce system design documents, participate in technical walkthroughs, conduct code reviews and mentor lead developers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering is required or a demonstrable equivalence in work experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of combined development and architecture experience
  • Production experience in design, development, configuration, optimization, and administration of a platform solution.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, object-oriented design, and J2EE frameworks and patterns.
  • Strong Oracle PL/SQL, stored procedures, SQL optimization skills
  • Expertise in Computer Grid solutions
  • Expertise in developing Highly-Available (HA) and Fault-tolerant (DR) architectures.
  • Experience in working with financial market data: general understanding of multiple asset classes in the Capital Markets environment
  • Excellent communication skills are essential, with strong verbal and writing and presentation proficiencies.
